Hey! I’m Nikki
My photography is candid, authentic and fun. That means plenty of candid and documentary-style moments throughout the day, authentic portraits that show who you are and how you express your love to each other. All with a fun and relaxed approach.
I’ll be your photo ninja (I always manage to pop out of nowhere just as someone is about to take a phone photo – cue the calls of “let’s get the professional to take our photo instead!”), master-observer (courtesy of being an introvert and ex-writer), watching for natural smiles and laughter, or making silly banter and prompting those genuine smiles if you need a little help loosening up.
I have a gentle and empathetic nature which helps couples to feel comfortable around me, and actually enjoy being photographed. I'll be your hype woman (lots of “omg yesss!!” “omg cuuutee!!” “omg perfecttt!”), your chill pill, and your honorary wedding party member. It’s important to me that you get gorgeous photos but still get to enjoy your day!
If the dancefloor is going off, I love to be right in the middle laughing along with guests, encouraging silly dance moves, giving out heart-shaped sunnies. It's how I capture the vibe of the moment and those high-energy party-vibes on the dancefloor!
My editing style is timeless, no dead desaturated grass or changing the colours of clothing. I edit individually to each wedding to ensure your images are a beautiful reflection of how your vision came together on the day.
All you two have to do is focus on having fun, soak up the love, and i’ll be there to capture it all!
I am obsessed with music
I love metal, heavy and alternative music, as well as industrial music, and pop music by queer artists. Some faves are Johnny Goth, Wednesday 13, Lorna Shore, Slipknot and The Used. I’m also a huge Gaga and Tove Lo fan ✨
I’m an introvert who loves parties
I am an introvert, but I love people, I love parties, and I love going to concerts and music festivals and soaking up the energy and good vibesss.
During my very limited time off I love playing PS/Xbox and cozy Steam games – my faves are The Last of Us (Part 2 especially), the Assassin's Creed series, and Overwatch.
Cat-obsessed 😻
No, really. I have unashamedly pulled my car over just so that I can pat a cat I’ve spotted on the footpath.
I have a black short haired void named Jiji – she’s like my shadow and will most likely make an appearance during our Zoom chat!
“Is that your real last name?”
Yes, and before you ask – nope, I am not Russian! Something about an ‘o’ or an ‘i’ being left out when my grandparents migrated from Italy to Australia. They of course didn’t want to cause any trouble at the borders and thus became the lore of my surname! I also have Greek heritage, so if there's plate smashing and the Zorba planned please do get in touch 💃🏻
I am a self-proclaimed emoji queen and exclamation mark over-user
I try to limit my emoji use in the attempt to show some professionalism, but my exclamation marks will always come out. I am just genuinely so! excited! to document your day!!
Proudly LGBTQ+ friendly & queer af
Queer love fills my heart! 🥹 I started my career photographing queer events and queer nightclubs before I got into weddings, I’ve been featured on Dancing With Her a few times, and I’ve been an official Midsumma Festival photographer many years in a row!
Put simply – I am a pro at photographing camera-shy couples and making you feel comfortable in front of the camera.
My approach is candid, relaxed, fun, and catered to each couple!
When I first started out, I wanted to photograph live music – I did that for a hot minute and then quickly fell into nightclub photography.
A lot of my passion for photography still stems from that nightlife introduction, and it's why my favourite part of events and weddings is often the dancefloor. I love to be right in the middle of the action, capturing all the smiles, laughter, tipsy dance moves, and high-energy party vibes.
‘Til Death Do Us Party! 🍾
Q&A with Dancing With Her
DWH: WHAT’S YOUR DREAM WEDDING THEME? BUCKET LIST TYPE’VE THEME.
Nikki: I’ve been so lucky to already photograph some dream weddings, so maybe something more outlandish and off kilter, like a wedding that kicks on to a nightclub with the couple and wedding party still in their wedding outfits! Or maybe a wedding at a bush doof! Or a ceremony in a mosh pit!
DWH: WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE WEDDING MOMENT TO CAPTURE?
Nikki: Ooh that’s gotta be a tie between couples portraits and the dance floor!
During portraits I get to have full ‘control’ over direction in terms of positioning for best lighting and backdrop, creating photos that’ll be hung on the couples wall or printed in an album, or used as their new social media profile picture! I also love getting to spend time with just the couple to check in with them, and it gives them a chance to check in with each other and have some sweet and fun intimate moments while we frolic around taking photos.
Then once the formalities are done and it’s time to party, I love to be right in the middle of the dance floor laughing along with guests, capturing the vibes and those high-energy (and tipsy) shots from the dancefloor!
DWH: HOW DO YOU CAPTURE THE UNIQUE PERSONALITIES OF THE PEOPLE YOU WORK WITH?
Nikki: I’m great at observing so I can usually feel out what direction and guidance would work for a couple and might not work for another. I also think that if a couple feels comfortable around me, they’re able to relax, have fun and just be themselves, which I think comes through in their photos! I also get a good idea of the couple’s dynamic, personalities and type of affection from getting to know them at our initial meeting. I’m also skilled at being sneaky with capturing moments that reflect the couple without them realising!
